Does your CV need a serious makeover?
The Problem: You can’t get a health, safety & environment position because you can’t get an interview.
An interesting statistic that I heard recently was that 90% of candidates believe that they have a strong CV or Resume.
Unfortunately, Employer’s report that 80% of the CV’s that they review are quite the opposite.
So, if you think your Health and Safety CV is great but can’t get an interview, it is highly likely that you are wrong.
Maybe you are moving to the UK and have previous HSE experience, but are struggling to get attention?
Safeti can help set you on the right track.
How good is your CV?
The easiest way to test your CV is to look at what will call your ‘HIT Ratio‘ ……..in other words………….
How many interviews are you getting compared to the number of applications that you have made?
There is a myriad of reasons why your CV won’t make the cut for the interview stage.
Believe or not, you are not the only person on the planet with a NEBOSH Certificate 🙂
Luckily, most people succumb to the same pitfalls. These can be easily identified & remedied.
The bottom line: if you aren’t getting interviews for 100% of your applications, there is room for improvement!
Safeti’s Top 3 Remedies to get your CV fighting fit
- Are you Qualified? Around 75% of job applicants for any position are under-qualified. Suffice to say, they don’t usually make it past the initial suitability test. You are pretty much always going to be wasting your time if you make up part of this 75%. Few people will ever satisfy all of the criteria the recruiter has set out, but you need to be honest with yourself. If it is essential to have a Health & Safety Diploma, your IOSH Managing Safely course ain’t gonna cut it. Be patient and realistic.
- Value Proposition You need to make a unique Business Case to convince the company to invest many thousands of £’s in you over the next few years. Think about it, if they choose to invest in you they are taking a considerable financial risk. The challenge for you is to demonstrate that the risk is worth taking. Get into this mindset. Take another look at your CV as if you were in the boss’s shoes, do you think you would be worth spending the money on?
- Career Highlights To make your Health and Safety CV stand out from the crowd, you have to demonstrate that you want this particular job. The best way to do that is to demonstrate your suitability for the position via practical examples i.e. case studies. This might seem like a difficult task, and that’s why it is so powerful. Few candidates will put the effort into aligning their CV specifically to what the recruiter is asking for. It is an opportunity for you to stand out from the crowd.
